Short Term Mission programme at GNFC

TFJ volunteer scheme stands for Time for Jesus – GNFC’s Short Term Mission programme for UK and overseas volunteers, which gives Christian men and women 21 years and over, first hand “missionary” experience.

God is at the centre of the ministry of Good News Family Care.  If you would like to make a real and lasting difference to vulnerable people who GNFC serve, then this could be the opportunity for you! You will become part of the GNFC family, living and working alongside staff and residents God will use you to speak into their lives.

What is a TFJ?

As a TFJ you will join the Good News Family Care team on a full time, live-in basis. You will work closely with parents and children or participants of the work-skills projects. All those who we support are experiencing major difficulties in their lives. Posts run from 3 months to 1 year and are open to men and women of all nationalities. The “qualifications” required are:

  • A strong Christian faith
  • Age 21 years or over
  • A desire to share God’s love with parents, children and the team
  • Willingness to ‘have a go’ at what is needed!
  • Moderate to good spoken and written English

Duties

Each volunteer is different – bringing his or her own gifts and talents to the ministry. For this reason a TFJ’s role within the team is, to a large extent, unique. Day to day jobs, however may include:

  • Supporting single women, parents and their children
  • Administration
  • Shopping and cooking
  • DIY
  • Befriending
  • Teaching
  • Working in the nursery or on the farm
  • … and many more things along the way 🙂

No matter where your talents lie you can be sure that they will be used for God’s Glory, and who knows, you may even discover some new ones along the way! Whether you’re handy with a paintbrush, a whizz with computers, or have a crafty ideas – your most important duty will be to show the love of Jesus to the needy families who come to stay with us.

Who can be a TFJ?

If you have a strong Christian faith, are aged over 21 and you have a desire to share the love of Jesus with others, you can be a TFJ. Good health is an asset (there’s a good deal of energy-demanding work involved) and you must be able to work as part of a team and willing to get involved with what is needed.

Volunteers from Overseas

We have worked with volunteers from many different countries – including Brazil, USA, South Korea, Germany, Kenya, Nepal, and South Africa.

TFJs from overseas need to have a visa permitting them to work, the process is started before coming to the UK. If you do not live in the UK, please contact us directly for an application to apply to be a TFJ volunteer.

Working Conditions

As a TFJ you will have your own furnished room and communal areas for other live-in staff. You will receive pocket money, a food allowance. Expenses for travelling home (UK only) can be applied for 3 times a year.

Church and Family

Good News Family Care offers a strong support network of people who love God. You will be part of this family and the church community which we are connected to. We prioritise our relationship with God, are faithful to His name and seek to act according to His will so that we can truly be used by God in the lives of the families we serve.

Working together, as part of the Body of Christ – confronting at ‘first hand’ the harsh reality of this broken world – will mean learning to lean on God. Such a God-dependant environment won’t allow your Christianity to be superficial. As a member of the team you will learn the importance of mutual support, fellowship, sharing, encouraging and how vital it is to trust God in all situations. You will also experience the joy of seeing God meet peoples’ deepest needs as they discover freedom in Jesus Christ.

Every member of the team (including volunteers) is an essential part of the ministry of GNFC. We are deeply grateful to the many volunteers who give their time and energy in a variety of services; without them, there would be no ministry!

How to apply

You can email mail@gnfc.org.uk, we will send you an application form and contact you to arrange an interview. If you are from overseas, please get in touch to find out more and to apply, we advise you not to book your flight until you have confirmation of a placement with GNFC and your visa.
